Building Material & Construction Interview Questions
1.The texture of rock- The texture of a rock is
the size, shape, and arrangement of the grains
2. Terracotta is a refractory clay product used for making Terracotta tiles
and Terracotta bricks. There are two types of
terracotta poduct, polish and porous terracotta.
3. Chemical compostion of cement - Portland cement is
made up of four main compounds: tricalcium silicate (3CaO · SiO2),
dicalcium silicate (2CaO · SiO2), tricalcium aluminate (3CaO · Al2O3),
and a tetra-calcium aluminoferrite (4CaO · Al2O3Fe2O3).
4. Aggregate properties :
Particle Size (Size of Aggregate), The shape of Aggregates,
Surface Texture, Specific gravity , Bulk density. Surface moisture content,
Absorption, and Porosity, Bulking of Aggregate (Sand) , Deleterious
material in aggregates
5.Mild steel and carbon steel - The difference is the amount
of carbon. Mild steel has small amounts of carbon between 0.16 and 0.3%. Carbon
steel has more carbon, up to
2%, and this allows it to be hardened and tempered.
6. Adhesives are designed for specific applications.
Besides their role in the adhesion process, they can be used for other
purposes, such as sealing agents, in order to eliminate the effect of
self-loosening caused by dynamic loads, sealing of areas to prevent oxidation
and corrosion, waterproofing,
7. Modular Bricks
8. The requirements
of a good staircase: Location. It should be located centrally so easily accessible
from every corner of the building, Width of the stair, Length of
flight, Pitch of the stair, Headroom, Material, Landing Step,
Proportions.
9. Tread
and riser size
10.The procedure of
carrying out plastering in cement mortar on new and old wall separately
11. Important
stones used in the building construction
12. The
advantages of refracting bricks- These bricks are
materials used to create structures heat treating structures such as kilns or
furnaces. The best benefit of using a refractory brick is its
ability to endure extremely high temperatures because of its exceptional
insulating nature or quality.
13. Bulking
of Sand --The increase in the volume of sand due to increase in moisture
content is known as bulking of sand.
14. compaction
of concrete- Compaction is the process which expels entrapped air from freshly
placed concrete and packs the aggregate particles together so as to increase
the density of concrete.
15. DPC
– Damp Proof Course
16. BC-Bituminous
Concrete, SDBC- Semi Dense Bituminous Concrete
17. Cubic
Feet, Cubic Yard and Cubic Meter are the three method which are used to measure
the concrete size.
18. The period elasping between the time when
water is added to the cement and the time at which the needle failes to pierce
the test block by (+,- 5) mm is taken as initial setting times.
19. Le
chatelier’s methods (it measures expansion due to lime) shall not more have an
expansion of more than 10 mm.
20. Admixture
- suitable materials known as admixtures may be added by conc.mix just before
or during the mixture to modify one or more properties of the conc. in the
plastics or hardened state as desired.
21.Mortar
22. Workability
of concrete
23. The
treatment given to the roof of a building to prevent the roof from the leakage
of water is known as water proofing
24. Dieldrin
is chemical insecticide for termite proofing
25. Dado
is usually provided in bath rooms
26. The
foundation in which a cantilever beam is provided to join two footings is known
as strap footing
27. The
9 cm x 9 cm side of a brick as seen in the wall face, is generally known as
header
28. The
Auger borings are not common in soils that require lateral support
29. Pitched
roofs are preferred in areas having heavy rainfall
30. The
temporary framework is known as Scaffolding and it is useful in construction
demolition, maintenance or repair works.
